Jog-A-Thon Schedule

Please come out to support, cheer, dance, take photos, and distribute water and/or wristbands to your students as they run/jog/walk around the field on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24TH, 2014.

9:00 – 9:40AM –  1st and 4th Grade
10:00 – 10:35AM –  Kinder and Preppy K

Parent University This Week’s Sessions: “E-Cigarettes and Vaping”, “Easing Transition from Middle to High School” and Addressing “Bullying and Cyberbullying”.

October 21 – E-Cigarettes and Vaping
Presenter:  Cynthia Schaffer, Tobacco Use Prevention Program
Time:  6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Location:  District Board Room
This presentation will focus on hookah and e-cigarettes related products.  The presentation will also address how do they work?   Are they a safe alternative to cigarettes?  Learn about the tempting new products your kids may be seeing around their community, and ways to help them stay away from tobacco.
 
October 22 – Taking it up a Notch – Easing the Transition from Middle to High School
Presenter:  Amanda Wolfe, Alyson Dixon, Frank Perez
Time:  7-8:15 p.m.
Location:  District Board Room
High School expectations will be discussed, how to get the most out of your parent-teacher relationships, and things you can do to help your child achieve success in high school and beyond.
 
October 23 – Addressing Bullying and Cyber Bullying
Presenter:  Christine Laehle, Orange County Department of Ed
Time:  6:30-7:30 p.m.
Location:  District Board Room
This presentation is designed to assist school administration, teachers and parents in ways in which bullying and cyber bullying occur, common forms of bullying/cyber bullying, social networking sites, preventing bullying/cyber bullying and responding to bullying and cyber bullying.

Battle of the Books is Back!

4th – 6th Grade Students
The Battle of the Books (BOTB) is an exciting competition for students in grades 4 – 12.  It promotes a love of reading, increases reading comprehension, increases vocabulary skills, and builds teamwork among the participating students.  The Battle of the Books is a single-day event where students from other schools in the Yorba Linda/Placentia District compete by answering questions about the books on the Battle Booklist.  Represent Van Buren and make us proud to be Roadrunners!  Winners usually receive a Target gift card.  Participants will celebrate with a party at our very own Van Buren Library.

FORM A TEAM OF 3 -5 STUDENTS AND SIGN UP AT THE YORBA LINDA LIBRARY

DEADLINE IS ON NOVEMBER 15TH 2014

COMPETITION IS ON A SATURDAY IN EARLY FEBRUARY

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser

Pre-Order your Krispy Kreme donuts by October 20th.  Delivery will be Friday, October 24th at 2:15pm at the lunch tables.  Only $10 a dozen.
